Broke (12" Vinyl)
The Debut Album from Scott Lavene on High Resolution Vinyl
Scott Lavene is set to release ‘Broke’ on 7th June 2019, an album that is drenched in living in the gutter but staring at the stars.
Like all the greatest music Scott Lavene is all at once familiar and yet hard to place. A storyteller, delivering real life vignettes over wonk beats and scuzz riffs, he is a 21st century take on those maverick genius outsiders that Stiff Records used to release back in the punk wars.
Lavene has the lyrical smarts and the fairground bark of an Ian Dury, the incisive wordplay of a Costello and the deadpan pop of Madness in his creative DNA, along with the street poetry of an Essex boy version of Lou Reed, the dislocated funk of Talking Heads, the jellied eel lyrical bounce of Chas and Dave, and the inventive surreal see-saw of a Tom Waits, and many other nonconformists.
It’s an intoxicating brew that he makes his own in this collection of wonderful quirky songs that make up ‘Broke’.
These are songs that are full of detail and a life lived in scuffed shoes, rainy towns and the magic of the everyday. Songs about small talk, being skint, doomed affairs and the sweetness of falling in love over a cup of tea.
Creating unconventional backdrops for his street tales Scott builds up shapeshifting rhymes and looping grooves.
‘Rhythmically I wanted to be able make a whole album where you could just listen to the drums and bass and yet twist with street stories and with an instrumental sixties atmosphere like Gainsbourg or film soundtracks like David Lynch or Wim Wenders - sort of like making soundtracks for films that had not been made.’
It may have taken time but sometimes, though, life eventually smiles on these maverick souls and now signed to Funnel Music as a solo artist Scott Lavene is finally surfacing on people’s radar which brings us to the now and a blinking bemused looking singer on the edge of mainstream embrace.

My Kinda Girl 7" vinyl
Following on from recent singles 'It's All Gonna Blow' and 'Hollywood' - Scott Lavene has announced his new single My Kinda Girl. Out physically on 28th September, the release will be supported by a 11 date UK tour including a date at The Slaughtered Lamb in London.
In Scott’s own words, “‘My Kinda Girl’ is a song about the early stages of romance when you’re noticing small quirks about each other’s personalities. You think “oh she loves pastries and jeans and so do I. We must be meant for each other.” Love is sick like that. It’s the most honest love song I’ve ever written.”
Born in Essex, Scott Lavene was raised on power ballads, punk and swearing. In bands since his teens, Scott travelled about, scratching out a living with deadbeat jobs trying to find something to cling to. After couple of years in France and a brief stint in New York, including a playing at the infamous CBGB’s Scott returned to London and came close to a major label deal with his sordid songs.
Instead Scott disappeared on a rusty old boat, a floating shed, for five years. Hiding from the world. Broke and bemused. Solitude and lonely debauchery.
After five years of this Scott went kaput, so spent some time in a house for the bewildered where he emerged full of life and songs. A self released album in a band called Big Top Heartbreak led to being signed to Funnel Music as a solo artist.
The first single, ‘It’s All Gonna Blow’ has been played by Steve Lamacq on his BBC 6Music show and Scott had a residency at the Brighton Fringe as well as a sell out show at Crofters Rights in Bristol for the 7inch vinyl release show.

Scott Lavene starts the next chapter in his career with ‘It’s All Gonna Blow’, a charming tale about redemption, eating biscuits, unplanned pregnancy, and anxiety over a possible Armageddon. Written in his lounge over a pot of tea, the track has nods to Squeeze, Talking Heads and Courtney Barnett and is his first release under his own name of Scott Lavene.
The B-side, ‘Sell Out’, is a garage rock ditty, a song about vanity, brands and, in Scott’s words, “the likelihood that I’ll never make any money from music unless Coco Pops want to use my songs”.
Born in Essex, Scott Lavene was raised on power ballads, punk and swearing. In bands since his teens, scratching out a pound note on with dead end jobs in various towns. Always moving, sunny side down, trying to find something to cling to. In London during the late noughties, the behaviour became darker, the songs got better and there came a sniff from some major labels and a stint in New York including playing at CBGB’s.
There followed a mental breakdown and an escape from society for six years. No more music, very little hope of returning to reality. Large doses of solitude and lonely debauchery. Alone on a rusty boat, bobbing around the country.
After six months in a House for the Bewildered and a move to the coast a new batch of songs emerged and Scott played for the first time in seven years. The new songs pricked up some ears, which led to recording an album financed by selling most of his possessions. One of the singles became ‘Record of The Week’ on Geoff Lloyds Absolute Radio show and the hope and belief was back.
Now, Scott is solo with an ace band, some tales to tell, and a smashing collection of twisted pop songs with hints of Ian Dury, Squeeze, Tom Waits, Talking Heads, John Grant and Father John Misty.

Scott Lavene returns with his new single Hollywood, a twisted pop ballad taking a sideways yet realistic peek into the modern age of showbiz. In his owns words, “it’s a story about someone with stars in their eyes, with hope and ego, aiming high but eventually ending up sniffing gutters..”
The single follows hot on the heels of his last single, It’s All Gonna Blow a charming tale about redemption, eating biscuits, unplanned pregnancy, and anxiety over a possible Armageddon.
Perhaps with the ever-increasing fears of possible Armageddon hanging over us all, 2018 is already proving to be a busy year for Scott. He recently has just written, directed & starred in a new one-man musical Narcissism as well as performing in The Vodka Hunters as part of Bournemouth Emerging Arts Fringe.
